Let's start with the not so perfect parts so that you can prepare for them!
1. As soon as you go in they take a cheesy cruise ship type photo with a green screen behind you. $20 for both pictures they make, optional to buy of course.
2. Don’t book your tickets online. Yes, you may save a dime, but you have no control over your seat location. The closer you are to the arena the more likely you are to have a horse fling dirt in your face and food. They are more than happy to replace any messed up food, but why take the risk when you can reserve over the phone and get a few rows back. I sat on the front row, it was ok but I would like to try higher the next couple time I go. Yes, it was that great.
3. These shows sell out, so get a reservation.
4. They only serve Pepsi, water, and sweet tea. If you make another request they will accommodate, but you will have to wait longer than everyone else so don’t get mad just be patient and they will take care of you.
5. No utensils are used. This is fine. They provide napkins, moist towelettes, and a huge warm moist towelette after dessert. If this bothers you, just stop by one of the numerous fast food restaurants on the way and pick up some to carry in.
6. Dolly is a business woman and no matter what you go to of hers, Dollywood included, you are forced to leave through a gift shop that is always too small for the crowd. This is my only real complaint.
We saw the Christmas show on 11-11-07 and I was a little skeptical with the ticket prices being so high, however, it was well worth it. They give you $40 dollars worth of food in my opinion. It wasn’t the best food ever, but it was really good. The chicken was perfect and fell off the bone. I could give a play by play on all the food but it would be all the same, good, good, good. The show was also awesome, really good. It is hard to eat and watch and that is why I want to go again. I’m sure I missed something. To sum it up, go!

We go to Pigon Forge every year and did stop at the Dixie Stampede one time. In this show everyone is seated at long, stadium style tables around an arena where the audience views a very elaborate horse show. The show is entertaining and the food is good, but what's different here is that you are deliberately given no silverware! You eat the entire meal by hand. Of course all the food is the type that you can eat by hand (you'll have to drink your soup from the bowl).
The Stampede is a bit pricy for this family of four to return to, but it was a good experience. The only thing I suggest is that if you go, avoid being placed at the bottom tables closest to the arena. Whenever the horses rushed by, there were times a few bits of dirt flew in our direction and threatened to contaminate the food.

I ordered tickets on the phone and paid the extra for better seating, and at first was a little put off by the price, but after the show I think it was completely worth it. Kids will love it.
